MicroSilicon to Present at OTC 2021

A technical paper on offshore applications of the Quantum RF has been accepted for publication.

HOUSTON, TEXAS, Nov 5 — A version of the Quantum RF* Asphaltene Monitoring system from MicroSilicon Inc has been designed for offshore deployment in the Gulf of Mexico and a technical paper has been accepted for publication that details the adaptations required for the planned application. The paper "Real-Time Digital Chemistry Offshore Transforms Flow Assurance Management" by John Lovell, Omar Kulbrandstad, Sai Madem and Daniel Meza will be presented at the 2021 Offshore Technology conference on 3–6 May 2021 in Houston, Texas, USA.

The Quantum RF sensor takes digital snapshots of the paramagnetic behaviour of molecules as they are conveyed by crude oil flowing through the wellhead or oilfield tubular. It transmits that chemical data to the cloud where it can be used to optimize treatment for flow assurance problems such as asphaltene deposition. Since its launch in 2017, the Quantum RF Asphaltene Monitoring System has completed multiple paid field tests in Canada, USA and Abu Dhabi and operators are already addressing the costs of flow assurance management based on the field data. Until now, however, all deployments have been on land. The largest worldwide opportunity for controlling the costs of asphaltene management are offshore Gulf-of-Mexico.

“Entering the Offshore GOM is a really big deal,” said John Lovell, VP of Technology at MicroSilicon. “and will drastically expand the value proposition of our Quantum RF system. In addition, we are particularly pleased to have been accepted by the OTC committee to present this technology and its offshore application. At time of the abstract submission, we have not yet deployed but we should have data streaming from the rig in time for the conference, which will be an industry first.”

In Q4 2018, MicroSilicon won the Best-in-Show Award at an SPE industry competition to highlight innovative and emerging energy technology companies, and the Quantum RF Asphaltene System was also nominated for World Oil Best Digital Transformation Technology. The system had previously been highlighted for special mention by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company at their RDPETRO conference in May 2018.
